A new info graphic about recency of practice requirements has been published in addition to an updated video for medical radiation practitioners.
The Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia’s revised recency of practice registration standard took effect on 1 December 2016. The key change to the Board’s recency of practice requirements is that a requirement for minimum hours of practice has been introduced.
The new info graphic highlights the minimum requirements and provides some pointers for practitioners who have not practised for more than three years or are planning to take extended leave from practice.
The Board’s video about practitioner obligations has been updated to include the new minimum requirements for recency of practice.
To meet the standard, medical radiation practitioners must practise within their scope of practice at any time for a minimum total of 450 hours in the previous three years (approx. three months full-time).
This change may affect those medical radiation practitioners who are currently practising infrequently, or who have had a recent absence from practice or who are currently taking a break from practice and wish to return to practice.
The revised standard was published well in advance of it taking effect to provide practitioners adequate time to prepare for the changes to the recency requirements. The Board encourages all practitioners to review the new registration standard to check whether they will be affected by these changes.
Practitioners will need to meet the obligations of the revised standard by the time they renew their registration in 2017.
Further information about the Board’s recency of practice requirements, including guidelines and FAQ, is available on the Board’s website.
