Still time to register for webinar on revised professional capabilities

04 Mar 2019

Medical radiation practitioners keen to learn more about revised professional capabilities for the profession still have time to register for this week’s webinar.

The Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (the Board) consultation on revised professional capabilities for medical radiation practice closes at 12pm on Friday 26 April 2019.

The Board is hosting a webinar at 3pm (AEDST) on Thursday 7 March for those interested in learning more about the proposed changes.

The professional capabilities were first published in November 2013. The Board spent last year reviewing them before developing the draft revised professional capabilities which reflect changes in the scope and role of medical radiation practitioners.

Some of the changes include:

  • a revised structure
  • new capabilities for ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging
  • enhanced requirements for safe and effective practice in CT for all medical radiation practitioners
  • more complete descriptions for recognising and responding to deteriorating patients, and
  • the importance of conveying information when urgent or unexpected findings are identified.

The current professional capabilities describe the minimum level of professional capability required for general registration and independent practice as a diagnostic radiographer, a nuclear medicine technologist or a radiation therapist in Australia.

To register for the webinar and to read the consultation paper go to Consultations on the Board’s website.
